  capturing AVCHD to FCE

  I’m new to FCE and am babystepping off of the startingline with the Editing Workshop Manual by Tom Wolsky (a great starter so far). When attempting to capture video I repeatedly get the ‘Unable to initialize HDV deck’ message. I’ve tried troubleshhoting w/ the Easy Setup settings to no avail. I have 2 video cameras, a Sony and a Panasonic. Neither work. The Panasonic is AVCHD and I believe shot in HG 1920-1080 (which could be part of the problem?). I believe I could upload to iMovie and then scoot over to FCE, but would like to do it right. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  I don’t believe that Final Cut Express supports AVCHD or HDV. You will probably need Final Cut Pro 5 and higher for those formats.
