  Capturing HDV 1080i and format for film festival

  Hi,
  just found your website, helps a lot.

  So, we shot a project on HDV 1080i. We haven’t started capturing it yet, but we are planning to send it to a film festival later. So, I was wondering if generally film festivals have a general preference for projection (progressive vs. interlaced)? If so, is there a way to capture our 1080i as progressive or is it something that needs to be done after?

  Sorry, if my question is dumb, but I’m new to all this and I’m a bit lost.

  I would keep the footage as shot throughout the editing process. If in the end you want to make it progressive than you just do that at the very end with just the movie file.

  Unless you are doing a film out at the end I would keep it interlaced.

  The one thing that I would recommend you do, is to convert the footage to ProRes on capture, keep everything else the same.

  Just one question though, for general knowledge: why is it better to capture in ProRes than in 1080i? Is it a question of space?
