Can I use a word processor while a movie is playing in FCP?
So, I take copious notes on my captured film so i can edit easier. I used to watch movie files in Quicktime to do this because, if I have a movie running in FCP and then I start writing in Textedit, the film stops playing. However, since moving to SD cards from film, I have a problem since Quicktime only displays the time for each clip, but the clip time info in FCP is different.
I need to figure out a way to have something play in FCP but also type into a program like Textedit at the same time so I can take notes. Is there a way to do this?

What kind of footage are you talking about?

If you have FCP you also have QT 7.5 or 7.1 or something like that.
With QT 7 you can display the Timecode from the original source material just like you can in FCP. You simply click on the time counter on the lower left side of the QT Player and you can select Timecode.
I don’t think QT Player 10 displays TC for whatever reason. I have not figured a way to do this yet, seems when I try to change the counter, nothing happens. I believe this is why QT Player 7 is still included with FCP.

I’m not understanding why you don’t just take notes within Final Cut?
You can do this while the footage is playing in the canvas no problem.
I like to use markers and then just label the markers for things, and you can do all this typing while footage is running. And you can take notes in other places as well for much more detail than just the marker titles if you want to, or when you log the footage while transferring it in, etc.
And I’ve never done it, but you can also print all these notes out as well I believe depending where you put them. Just seems like it would make the most sense to take all your notes inside of FCP rather than in a WP that has no relationship with the actual clips.
Just my thoughts…
