Need to crop a movie.
Hi!
I’m fairly new to video editing, but I get the basics of FCP. I made a movie that when I export has the dreaded “black bars” top bottom and sides. Now, long story short, I can’t access the “Settings” in FCP (it’s 4.x BTW) without crashing, so I am stuck with the black bars. Other than that the movie is fine.
So, my question is, is there some freeware, or simple way to crop out the black bars? I realize the movie will be smaller, but that’s fine. Or maybe there’s a workaround in FCP? BTW I am on a G4, running OS 10.4.11
Please help! Deadline fast approaching!

Or you make a sequence with the size of the picture and leave the black out of frame, or you upscale the picture in your actual sequence to fill the canvas.

What size are the clips, what resolution is the sequence what are you doing to do with the exported file.
How are you exporting. That image is really floating in black. This never happens without you doing something wrong.

No idea how you can be using software like FCP and live with it crashing like this. You need to delete the prefs and maybe reinstall the software. -
The files I am importing are 320×240, but because I can’t access settings, the sequence is set up as 720×480.
I am going to be uploading the movie to the web, and quality is not very important.

Upload it like that.
it will have a nice frame.
The black won’t increase the file size.

This black can be easily cropped out in Compressor, in the geometry tab.
