  • Linked clips – but only one track affected by tools?

I noticed yesterday that some (perhaps all) clips in my FCP v6.0.6 timeline are behaving oddly. ( Just checked – this is affecting all timelines).

V1 and A1 are linked, but when I try to select an edit point using the Ripple or Roll tools only the track that I’ve clicked on is affected – as though I were holding down the Option key. I’ve included a graphic in case it helps (okay – no I haven’t … image upload isn’t working, may be Safari issue).

In each case here I have previously used the Option key to shift the audio or video, but until a day or two ago the tools would (unless I pressed Option again) try to affect all linked tracks.

I have tried unlinking and re-linking the clips. Doesn’t help. Also, I checked on a timeline in which I had not shifted the audio and video edit points away from each other… same problem – only one track is selected.

I can’t find anything in either Settings or Sequence Settings that would seem to control this. Have I enabled a control unawares. How can I undo this?

    Thank you,
    Nelson

    Answering my own question:

Yes, I’d inadvertently hit the “Linked Selection” button or Shift-L, which seems – turned off – to act as a more long-term version of the Option key. It’s not in the menus that I can… oh yes, there it is, under the Edit menu. I just happened to notice that on of the little button bar icons was turned off, and tried it.

    There you go. ONM.
