  Exporting (Sharing) Files Cropping Arbitrarily

  I have an edit with clips cropped tight, though perfectly. After creating a quick-time movie from Final Cut (to both h264 1920×1080 and to the YouTube 720 settings), a small portion of the side is cropped off from the original composition that plays in the canvass within FCP.

  Not a lot is cropped off, but enough to hurt the composition of some shots with activity near the sides.

  How can I prevent any cropping at all when exporting the timeline edit to a quicktime file for general distribution?

  Did you export a self-contained QT from FCP and then use that in Compressor? If not try that. First check if the exported QT exhibits the problem? If not, use that file in Compressor to make the h.264s. If the h.264s exhibit the problem you may need to add padding in Compressor’s Geometry tab of the Inspector. Padding is explained in Compressor’s manual. If the exported QT has the problem look at the clips that you cropped to make sure they didn’t slide to the side slightly. Check the center points in the Motion tab.
