  • Sudden Audio Preview Problem

Hi, I’m new here. The reason I’m making this thread is because as the thread states, I’m getting some problems when it comes to previewing audio alone. Up until last week, I could preview any amount of audio without problems, but that isn’t the case anymore. Starting a few days ago, After Effects previews about four seconds of audio, then goes right back to the beginning of the composition. Obviously, this is a problem for me, since I must preview all of the audio in the composition in order to line it up with my video footage. I don’t want to resort to pre-rendering the audio alone each time when I used to be able to get all the audio playing within ten seconds. It seems to have happened around the time I installed those accursed Quicktime and ITunes updates. I tried reinstalling both of those programs under an older version, but to no avail. I don’t know if there’s a simple solution to this or if the question has been answered a few pages back, I would just really appreciate it if somebody could help me get my audio previewing functionality back. If there is no possible solution to this issue, I apologize for the inconvenience

Yeah it sounds like a quicktime 7.4 issue…

7.4.1 just came out… you can get it here:

    https://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

But as all new updates… you never know… I’m sure someone on the COW has a link to an older version of quicktime…

But I already DID downgrade. I uninstalled 7.4 and went back to 7.3. However, it didn’t help at all. I’m still only able to audio preview only four seconds. In case it wasn’t made clear, when I say audio previewing, I mean with the . key on the numerical pad.

I apologize for posting twice, but I really do need this issue resolved. I need to finish a video soon, but I need to be able to preview the audio alone

A co-worker had the same problem. His solution was:

    1) go to preferences>audio hardware
    2) change the output to something else
    3) click OK
    4) go to preferences>audio hardware
    5) change it back to “built in output”
    6) click OK
