  • FCP Training DVD’s?

Posted by David C jones on May 26, 2010 at 2:11 pm

    Greetings!

I am about to undertake learning FCP and was wondering what training DVD’s one would recommend. I’m experenced in Avid Newscutter (and used to be in GVG NewsEdit) but have never touched FCP. I’m actually looking for something that starts out REALLY basic.

    Thanks in advance!

I would recommend Shane’s Getting Organized in Final Cut Pro DVD. It doesn’t teach you how to use FCP to edit, but the organization/media management of FCP seems to always get Avid users.

As for learning how to use FCP to edit, there is just so much stuff on the web (and here on the COW) that i’d recommend watching tutorials on the web for a while.

I’m partial to my training discs from Class on Demand.

I’d suggest going the beginning sections fairly quickly, but don’t skip over them. It’ll get you up to speed and give you a handle on FCP’s way of working. There are some distinct differences in how they handle tracks and track sync.

    All the best,

    Tom

The Apple Pro training series books are great, and they each include a DVD with assets so you can go through the various exercises with the actual material as in the book. Extremely helpful.
