  Hard Drive for Mac G5 Dual 2.0

  Need to know some of ya’lls information. I’m looking at a hard drive from Hitachi
  Hitachi Deskstar
  Interface- SATA 3.0Gb/s
  Capacity- 2TB
  RPM- 7200 RPM
  Cache- 32MB
  Just wondering if this is going to be fast enough for capturing footage

  Right now I’m having to capture onto internal main drive and moving files to external FantomDrive 5400RPM USB 2.0. I would capture into it except every time I do so it drops frames.

  Any input would be helpful.

  First off USB works in bursts of data and not a constant data stream. There forer it is NOT something you should be capturing video to or even editing from.

  As to your question about if the second internal drive is fast enough. We can’t say because you have not told us whwt format video you are planning on editing. Different formats of video have different data rates and therefor diffent hard driver speed requirements.

  I am capturing SD footage from a DV deck, via firewire.

  With dv footage the dire you a looking at will be fine.

  Hindsight is always 1080p
