    Good evening!

    I run the following setup:

    JVC DV500
iMAC dual core Intel with FCP HD EXpress 3.5
This computer has NEVER been connected to the internet.
Purchased and installed hardware and software about 2 1/2 years ago and been running well.
Now also ahve JVC DVM600 Triple-combo deck (MiniDV/HD/DVD. (The DVD NEVER worked on anything)

    The problem:
    FIRWIRE capture:
The FC program no longer captures AUDIO with the Video. This is true for both DV500 or DVM600 deck Firewire source deck.

Previously made (captured) footage plays fine.
The VU meters on FC do NOT show signal on capture.

BUT – if I exit FC and start iMovie – it works fine: no cable changes or setup difference at all – just exit one program and start the other.

In other blogs I found instructions on how to completely clean out/delete FC and start over; deleting pref files etc. I did it. No difference.
    ————
Apple support ran me through tests and said it was necessary to backup everything and reinstall the OS and FC with the full wipe clean choice and start over.
I did it, and chose the full install setup which warned of full erasure, etc. it should erase everything and make a fest start.

I did it – about 1 3/4 hrs of watching it.

    No difference.

AND …. when it booted up again the icon for the ext HD was right where I had left it — which means it didn’t overwrite everything.

I am indebted to you for whatever you can do.

    Thanks.

[Bruce Lippy] “AND …. when it booted up again the icon for the ext HD was right where I had left it — which means it didn’t overwrite everything. “
    That means nothing at all.

[Bruce Lippy] “This computer has NEVER been connected to the internet. “
Is this true or is it just want you think we want to hear? How do you update the software? There is no reason to NOT have a computer connected to the internet.

What are you capture settings? That is the important info.

Of course it’s true. Why would I say it otherwise?
No, I’ve never updated the software. It ran great and did what I needed for 2 1/2 years, so if it’s not broke…..

APPLE support ran through the settings and then still had me reset to default factory and it made no change. I’ve reinstalled both OS and FC since and no change. I use the DV/NTSC setting that is default/suggested setup when you start a project.
