I have a new project that I’m setting up on FCP v7. It was shot on HDV (1080i 24p) and DV. The system I have is a new MacBook Pro, 2.66 intel i7, 8GB ram with a 1TB G-RAID mini external hard drive.

My first question is: do I need to downconvert all my HDV tapes to DV? If not, what “easy setup” do I use if I have DV and HDV sources?

    thanks!

the question is what do you want to deliver the final as.

But going down to SD from HDV is cleaner than trying to going up to HDV to SD. If you use HDV in a SD timeline you will have to render the footage every time you do something.

Your other problem is different framerates you need to convert the HDV 24p to 29.97 by adding pulldown so it will be 29.97i SD.

“It was shot on HDV (1080i 24p)”

That’s not possible, you cannot have footage that is interlaced and progressive at the same time.

    Hindsight is always 1080p
