Hi, I’m working with mini-dv footage in After Effects then editing my finished version in Final Cut. I have heard that the quality could be better by rendering my After Effects project in the animation codex then importing in FCP. Since my final output will still be onto mini-dv is this extra step worth doing to improve the look of the project?
    thanks

Nope. FCP will have to compress the Animation movie anyway to match the DV sequence, so just render to DV in AE, then when you bring it back into FCP, FCP won’t have to recompress it, since it will already be in DV, like your FCP sequence.

This assumes that you don’t want to do a lot of effects in FCP after you’ve done the AE render.

… which would be the case if you rendered to DV using AE. 🙂
