    Hey all,

Most likely a really dumb question im about to ask, but im very used to doing all my editing with Sony Vegas Editing Software. The main pain from making the transition to Final Cut from Vegas would be the simple fact that in Vegas if you added transitions or filters or simply MOVED the clip to a different location I always always have to rewrite the clip in order to watch my changes smoothly in the viewer. This slows down my production 10 fold considering any simple change I ever make I have to wait for the clip to be rewritten. Is there any way to setup Final Cut to NOT have to wait and rewrite every simple thing I do? Vegas just simply played any change I made to my clips on the timeline flawlessly in the viewer without having to wait painful minutes watching your clips be rewritten. Any suggestions? This would help me so much! Thanks!

As long as your sequence settings do match the format of video you are working with then you wont have yo do that, I imagine that other editing programs are the exact same way.

    Hindsight is always 1080p

Watch the following tutorial, commit it memory, don’t pass go, do not collect $200, and always start every FCP project with the proper Easy Setup.

David, this video helped out a lot! I still have issues though. Anytime I add a transition effect it stays as unrendered (and i have settings at Unlimited RT) and I have to render it. And my second problem, which appears to be my worst, is I use a matte to create a letterbox for my video just the way I like it. With this matte any change i make to my clips has to be rerendered which just leads me back to my same old pain :(.

    Is there any suggestions?

Thanks again for all the help.

The effects that are in bold type are real time effects, others are not.

So, don’t put the matt on until your pix are locked.

And close all the sequences that you don’t need to be open.

Thanks again guys. I really wish i could keep the matte on when I edit so i can just see how my clips look immediately with the letterbox matte on it. I guess I was just spoiled with Sony Vegas without having to worry about rendering issues. Everything just flowed and I just figured Final Cut definitely would. Oh well, I’ll deal 🙂

    Thanks so much!
