I am nearing completion of a 105 minute documentary using FCP5. When I tried to export to QT I got a “general error” warning. I switched to QT Conversion with default settings and 20 hours later had a 8.2 gig file.

Is there a better faster way to get this project into DVD Studio? I will need to share DVDs with sound designer and others and this process seems overly long.

Make sure your entire timeline is rendered.

Export a Quicktime from your timeline using “Current Settings.”

If you still get that general error, trash your prefs and restart the machine, then try again.

I can’t remember if Compressor is included with FCP 5 or not, I think it was. If so, you take that QT file into Compressor and use the High Quality DVD Settings which will make an MPEG-2 and AC3 audio file for the DVD.

You take those two files into DVD Studio Pro to make your DVD.

The answer is yes and no Walter. As I’m sure you will recall once I remind you, FCP5 was standalone, then 5.1 was released as part of Final Cut Studio 1, which included Compressor and DVDSP in the full suite.
