So, I guess I’m just reaching out here and hoping the experts can provide some feedback.

I have a Mac Pro (January 2008) model with 8 cores at 2.8ghz and 32gb of RAM. I want to maximize the speed and throughput to render videos, naturally.

I started looking into QMaster and bumped up the number of instances for the “render” task to 8 instances. In FCP or Motion, if I do a “Share” and then “Send to Compressor” and choose the cluster, a few things happen:

    – When FCP is running, some of the tasks seem to crash out and renders the entire job dead
    – When doing this from a Motion project, the screen went all glitchy (lots of trash video from the dock and the Motion project covering other windows, extremely busy CPU and disk, etc.)… and the render crashed out.

Since this is the only machine that would be rendering, am I wasting my time trying to get QMaster working on this single machine? Seems like this is really more for sending off to an idle Mac somewhere on the network. Anything else I am missing?

    Your guidance is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Try using fewer instances. Leave a couple free for the OS and the apps to use.

    Couple of other tips:

Export your clip out to the desktop (or RAID etc) Then take that clip to Compressor. Trying to send it to compressor from FCP or Motion generally does not work.

Also try this app to clean up compressor and Qmaster problems: https://www.digitalrebellion.com/compressor_repair.htm
