    I’m trying to figure out how to make a smooth transition into slow motion. Instead of the footage going abruptly from 100% to 50% speed, I would like it to gradually get to 50%, almost like a taper effect if you will.

    Please let me know if you have a solution to this other than manually cutting, command J, 99%, 98%, 97%, 96%, 95% and so on.

    What application are you using? What version? If you have a recent version of FCP you should read in the manual about using variable speed control or time remapping or the speed tool, depending on which version you have.
