  • Face Morphing Effect in Michael Jackson’s “Black or White”

Posted by Tiffany Duke on December 6, 2009 at 9:46 am

I am working a project and have collected 100 photos of people that I would like to arrange in a way similar to that of the face morphing effect in Michael Jackson’s “Black or White”. How would one go about doing this in FCP? This may be very basic, not sure, just never have done it before in FCP, so all help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Tiffany,
My experience with “Morphing” is quite limited. I made a couple (with stills) years ago and just for fun (fey years ago was morphing everywhere).
I would start by framing well the picture tring that mouth an eyes (the two fundamental elements) match as much as possible (I mean on top of each others).
Then just get a plugin and try. Most of this plugins works in the same way: Contourning the main lines of the faces with lines that will transform from picture to picture. Practice. Is the kinds of things that when you’ve got a bit the use are quite easy to get then well done.
Sorry I can not recommend you any plugin for FC. I did it in SHAKE.
    Cheers,
    Rafael

    Hi Tiffany

If its just stills then try the free and fun MorphX
    https://www.norrkross.com/software/morphx/morphx.php

If its video then try Re:Flex (plugin for After Effects, Shake etc)

Many years ago when morphing was all the rage I used Avid’s Elastic Reality to make some fun videos but that product has long since been discontinued.

    Hope it helps
    Andy

About 5 years ago I used the CHV Morph-collection:
    https://www.chv-plugins.com/cms/Fx-Script/Morph-collection/Morph-collection.php

I don’t know if it’s up to date but it worked very well for me.

A bit of a tricky interface but you can really set-up a tight grid if you want or just go fast and loose.

    MorphAge is another option.
