sequence frame size settings
I have video clips that are formated at a frame size of 1440×1080 16:9 HD. This is what I was given, I didn’t upload them like this.
I could change my sequence settings and external video from 720×480 NTSC DV 3:2 to the HD setting to match the clips. However, I am worried it will be cut off on normal televisions. If I am making the video to be shown on regular TVs and online, should I stick with the NTSC frame size? and just shrink the HD clips to fit in the frame? or is it better to change the sequence settings and not resize the clips?

Why not cut in the 1440×1060 size. Drag the clip to the time line and Final Cut will ask if you want your time line to be that size. When you are done you can burn it to a DVD and author the DVD so it ads back on the top and bottom of the clip when it plays it on a non-16×9 TV. If your going to broadcast tape the AJA card can add the black to the top and bottom as well. I’m a fan of 16×9. In a way it is a matter of taste I guess. Hope this helps and best of luck.

What you must think is how you will deliver your NTSC movie.
If you intend to print to DV tape or DVD you have to work at 720×480.
If you go to print to Betacam Digital, will be 720×486.
Whatever the size you chose, just drop your HD footage in the sequence and edit.
