I have read many times that I do not need to deinterlace when making a dvd with idvd as televisions do that automatically with interlaced footage. With that in mind I recently made a 1 hr 15 minute dvd from my hxa1 footage edited in fcp5.1 (a long process) when I played it back on my dvd player it was full of combing effects where there was raw footage.(more exaggerated than the original moderate jaggies in fcp) – I had used smart deinterlacer on some clips and they were fine. I have now spent hours going back through the edit putting smart deinterlacer on those clips which need it but it’s such a painful process. I have made dvds in the past with standard def footage and no deinterlacing and they played fine on TV . Is this because it’s high def. footage. ( It’s my first high def job and figuring out the best working practice has taken weeks so far. – Still trying to work out an easy and sustainable workflow to adopt for the future.

    Many Thanks
