  Best sequence setting for mix of material (for showreel)

  Hi there

  I am a bit of a Final Cut novice but using it to make a showreel of stuff I’ve done which I have in a variety of formats- mostly 16:9, but some in HD, some in PAL, some in NTSC DV etc.

  The end product may end up on an NTSC DVD or online, any suggestions what settings I should use for the timeline for the project? I am running Final Cut on my iMac so will it be very slow if I have it in HD? (And will it matter if the finished product isn’t seen in HD?)

  If you need a NTSC DVD as 16:9, set your timeline to NTSC Anamorphic – ProRes or DV or even DV50. That way, whatever is not NTSC 16:9 will have to be scaled to fit 16:9. Maybe even needing render. But at least in the end you’ll have a consistent format.

  If you need a NTSC DVD as 4:3, set your timeline to NTSC – ProRes or DV or even DV50.

  Use the final sequence to export to iDVD for making a DVD.
