  Mix or Match Internal Drives?

  I am getting the new Mac Pro Quad core and want to fill the 3 empty drive bays. The computer will be delivered with one 640GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb (Seagate, I believe). I want to add one drive as a back up to the boot drive and 2 drives as a RAID 1 for video work area. After doing some research I like the Western Digital RE2-GP internal drives for both their rating and economy of operation.

  Are there any inherent problems with “mixing” the Seagate and the WD drives?

  You only need to match the drives that you plan to RAID together.

  I’d clone the system drive to an external, and use all three bays as a RAID. But your plan is good, too.
