When I am rendering complex AE compsusing my MacBook (2GHz, 2GB RAM OSX 10.4.11) it suddenly just turns off, then restarts.

This only happens when I am rendering from After Effects and heavily using the processors. Seems it is heating up a lot when this happens. If I let it cool down, I can restart and it will render ok, but if I render for too long, it will shut down again.

Is there some sort of automatic shutoff due to over processing or temperature?

Am I “frying” my MacBook trying to do stuff better suited for my MacPro tower?

    any advice here would help.

    Thanks!

If that’s the case (I don’t know for sure), have you considered buying a cooling stand with a fan?

You can also render to an image sequence in case of crashes. Then you just change the starting point in the Render Settings, and pick up the render again. When done, you import the whole sequence for a really quick QT render of the sequence. Good when you’re crashing.
