  Making 16:9 fit with 4:3

  Hi,

  I’ve got an old edit that was shot 16:9 and my client wants to use it within a production, however their screen for the set is 4:3. What’s the best way for me to supply them with a 4:3 beta, should I change the sequence settings or just export with compressor?

  depends if you want to letterbox it, crop it or squish it i would think? If all of the action is with the 4 x 3 ratio you could do a QT export with crop settings. I don’t mind the letterbox myself, to preserve the 16 x 9….people seemed impressed by widescreen, even with the letterboxing. Have a good show!

  Make a 4:3 sequence and put your edited widescreen sequence inside it. Render and output.

  Hey Tom,

  Thanks for the help… So my sequence is currently 1440×1080, whats the best setting I can use to export this 4:3 for my client? Should I export it first and then scale everything inside a new 4:3 sequence, or just drop it all straight in? What will keep the highest level of quality?
