  FCPS2 Dropped Frames MBP

  I have a MacBook Pro with 2Gb RAM and 512Mb VRAM. I also have Final Cut Studio 2 installed. I have been experiencing some dropped frames on a small project I decided to edit on the system drive, but I plan on getting a CalDigit VR soon. What settings should I be using to avoid future dropped frames. The system drive is a 250Gb 5400 RPM Hitachi? Thanks for any suggestions.

  Keeping the media on the system drive would be the cause.

  Your system system drive has enough to do running the OS and applications, pile on top of that heavy video files and it is just not going to be able to keep up.

  Move your media to a separate designated media drive (and not a USB one) and that will make a world of difference.

  There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

  We HAVE a dedicated Media drive in a RAID configuration and we still get dropped frames and FCP & MOTION both crash. So, how does one solve this issue?

  We are using a MacPro with 8 GB of RAM, Quad-core processor, 1 TB RAID drive configuration. Another thing, when I use Compressor, it takes nearly 2 hours to complete a 7 min 30 sec video using DVD single pass settings.

  Is there possible something wrong with the RAID? That is my theory. Thank you.
