Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy second license

    Hello,
Seems like this would be easy to find, but, i can’t seem to get information about how to buy a second license for my existing FCP. I am running 5.1 which I’d originally installed on my laptop, and would like to install on a desktop. I’ve successfully installed at least some elements of the suite on my desktop (Soundtrack and DVDSP) but they won’t work if i have any other application from FC SUite open on my laptop. I understand this is because I only have one license. How much is another license? I don’t have disc space or the proper OS for an upgrade to Studio 2, I just want to be able to use my existing software on another computer. How much will this cost me?

Apple’s policy allows you to install on your both your laptop and desktop computer, but you can only use one at a time, or at least only one open and hooked up to your network.

If you intend to operate both on a network all the time, you need to buy another full license fro $1199 I think, and of course version 5 is long gone now, so you may have to buy a used copy if you intend to stay at ver. 5, which would require your being very wary if you ever intend to upgrade at a later date.

What’s wierd is that I don’t have a network. Just a laptop and a desktop sitting next to each other. And yet when I open an FCP suite application on the desktop (the second computer I installed to) I get a protection error– no matter whether the Suite is open on my other computer or not.
Is there a legal way to buy another Studio1 package?
    My computer won’t take OS 10 4.5 and doesn’t have a fancy graphics card, so I don’t think I’m eligible for 2.

Are your computers connected, even via an airport card? That would be enough to cause an issue. If not, try shutting one off the first computer — the second should definitely work fine if the installation was done properly.

If it fails again, reinstall on the second computer and be sure to turn off the other computer when doing so. Also, remember there were numerous updates to the apps and to QT, and those might be a problem for you now, especially if you install the latest QT version.
