  Transition between two .psd files

  I am using fcp version 5.

  I have 2 layered .psd files that have been imported. I cannot do a cross fade transition between the two layered .psd files.

  I realize that if I flatten the .psd images it works fine but does anyone know if it is possible to transition between 2 layered .psd files? I tested a transition between a flattened .psd and a layered .psd and that works also.

  I’ve never come across this problem. But here’s a workaround until someone comes up with what the source problem is.

  Place .psd 2 on layer above .psd 1. Have .psd 2 overlaps .psd 1 by however many frames you want the dissolve to be.

  Right click .psd 2, select open in viewer. Now go to the motion tab, and set keyframes under the opacity option to have the file fade in over the duration of the the dissolve.

  The problem is that FCP treats a layer PSD file as a sequence. A nested sequence is treated as a complete piece of media as if it was a complete shot. You would have to trim back each side of the edit to allow room for the handles needed to make the transition. Or as Dennis said, a simple way is to overlap the nested sequences and add the transition that way, but that may not be possible is the nests contain transparency and are to be composited with other material.
