I just installed final cut studio and was going to install the upgrade to final cut studio 2, but when I put the install disk in, it says the program requires 30 gig of space. does this mean it requires an additional 30 gigs from the final cut studio? there are only 25 gigs of space left on my hard drive. I know final cut studio required 25 gigs, i can’t imagine the whole thing with upgrade will take 55 gigs!!! or will it be 30 total??? do i have room to install it? if not, i have already installed the upgrade on my desk top computer and was trying to put it on my laptop. if I can’t, will i be able to go back and forth between computers with the same project?

Your internal drive is probably too full to start with. Yes, it will require additional space to install the software. The total installed space will be 59G.

From the FCS tech specs page

    Available Disk Space

4GB of disk space required to install all applications (Final Cut Pro, Color, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Motion, Cinema Tools, LiveType, Compressor, and Apple Qmaster)
Additional 55GB required to install all optional templates, content, and tutorials (may be installed on separate disks):
9GB for DVD Studio Pro content
8GB for Motion templates and tutorial media
24GB for Soundtrack Pro audio content
12GB for LiveFonts and LiveType animated elements and templates
2GB for Apple Pro Training Final Cut Studio Tutorials media

    All the best,

Uh oh. Can i uninstall the final cut studio pro to just put the applications on the internal drive and the rest of the things on an external drive and then do the same with the upgrade? that way i will free up lots of my drive space. if this is the way to go, do you know how i go about uninstalling the original studio pro which i’ve already installed? Thank you for your advice!

You should completely uninstall the earlier version and content. Then install the upgrade. Some of the content like the Soundtrack loops can go on an external drive. However before you do that you should consider the state of your internal system drive. It sounds like it’s going to be too full to operating efficiently. You might need to see if you can get some material off that drive or look to getting a larger system drive. You probably want to keep 10% of the drive free after everything is installed.

There is a shareware app that will uninstall FCS https://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm

No, you do not need FCS1 installed. You simply need the serial number, which you be asked for when installing the upgrade.

I’ve installed the applications on my hard drive and am trying to install the other items on my external drive and it tells me that the “software must be installed on the running system” – ie it won’t let me install it on my Lacie external drive which has a ton of space on it…..any thoughts?
