mutli renders from fcp to compressor
is was wondering how to render out more then one sequence from fcp in compressor.
once i export to compressor from fcp, fcp is locked up.

Your questions is a good one, because tying-up FCP while rendering is a waste of time and resources. The bets way to handle this is to export self contained QT files using Quicktime Movie at current settings, then import those into Combustion and go back editing.
For the record, exporting a QT Movie at current settings makes a copy of your timeline that is as close as you can get to being identical, an without any recompression. Got it?

Why not a reference movie? He’s talking _Compressor_ not _Combustion_.
Reference quicktimes (created when “create self-contained” is de-selected) merely point to the footage and renders that already exist, rather than a self contained file, which contains each frame of your timeline in a, um, self-contained fashion.
Reference movies are faster to encode, and take up much less space, which is the perfect thing for an intermediate file that’s headed to compressor.
However, I’ve run into some trouble lately with text aspect scaling when moving from a ProRes 1080i to a DVCPRO HD 1080i format via the reference. So, it would be wise to test it before you add this step to your workflow.

The only reason most of us are recommending self contained QTs these days is because we see so many screw-ups made by users who just don’t realize that a reference file becomes absolutely useless the minute one minor change, including a re-render, is made to the underlying timeline from which it was created.
It’s very common for people to forget a QT file in their Finder is a reference file, then they reimport it and cut an entire project, which then gets ruined when the ref. file gets trashed by some inadvertent change.
