  • Trouble with FCP Capture VTR

So I’ve got three Sony TRV250 (Digital8) cameras that I’ve been playing with for a while. I haven’t had any trouble in the past, but all of the sudden my FCP is not recognizing any of the cameras for ‘DV NTSC 48k’ or ‘DV NTSC Basic’ capture. If I hit pause on deck, inside the timecode, and then open the log and capture box, it will recognize the camera until I begin to capture then it gives me a ‘frames were dropped error’ almost immediately. Otherwise it just tells me it can’t communicate.

I can capture if I use ‘non-controllable device’ and I can also capture through Quicktime Pro. I’m editing on a G5 PowerMac with FCP 6.0.4.

    2 Questions:

-Is there any quality difference between VTR controlled captures and non-controllable captures like with QT pro?

    and

-Why can’t I get these damn camera’s to operate with VTR!

    Thanks,
    David
