We have just acquired Final Cut Studio to start editing some multicam DV footage. We have enough space on our editing stations to hold all of the raw DV captures for the project. However, after we complete all of the editing and export all of the finished videos we will need to archive the raw DV footage to make room for more DV captures. What are the best practices to archive the raw DV captures to a SAN and/or LTO Tape?

Our primary concern is making sure that we can move the video files back to the editing station and be able to open old projects successfully that reference archived DV footage. What does Final Cut Pro look for when it looks for media in a project? Does Final Cut just look at the original absolute path and file names of clips? Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

Use media manager to make a COMPLETE copy of the project onto an external drive.
