I’ve read through about 30 posts on problems people have had with this issue, and they’re great info(thanks to anyone who responds on these questions), but none of them fix it. I mean, people with the exact same camera, and version of FCP, and somehow it’s still not working. I found a custom device control setup that *I* made for Sony HDV camera when it did this once before (I had *2* bad firewire cables), and it’s not working. I’ve tried 3 different firewire cables. I’ve started up the camera first, then the computer, and vice versa with long pauses in between. It’s not set to downconvert to DV. I’ve done easy setup for HDV 1080 60i and hdv 1080 60i fw basic. I’ve done the FCP rescue thing of trashing the preferences. There aren’t any other external devices hooked up, hard drives, other decks or cameras, etc.

I’ve had the camera work many times before, and once got stuck like this for an incredibly frustrating period before we realized we had not one, but 2 bad firewire cables. I’ve had the camera connect to the g4 at work just fine sometimes, and get stuck like this at others. It seems like before it was something with starting up FCP and having the camera on or off or something, but it didn’t require a full restart (though I’ve tried that also). The camera display shows HDVin [iLINK], and I went through it’s connection procedure pre and post FCP startup.

This is never this hard with the HVX we have, or the big sony dvcam deck at work. It’s just with this little HDV camera.

Any help would be appreciated. I just can’t figure out what I’m missing.

    Thanks,
    Tom
