  Help!!! DVX 100B – Final Cut Pro – Importing clips NOT sequences – 2 part question.

  Hi,
  Can anyone offer help on the following issues I have:

  1) When I connect my old and dated Olympus digital camera with my I Mac the computer acknowledges the device and asks do I wish to open with Final Cut Pro – great! – however when I go throguh the same process with my new and costly Panasonic DVX 100B no such acknowledgement happens. No acknowledgement of the firewire connection to the mac! and the only way I can get my footage onto FCP is by converting the footage into XML files (through uploading via i-Movies) and reintroducing to FCP.

  Can anyone suggest why this lack of communication is happening??? FCP acknowledges my old digi cam but not my recent / new professional cam and I then have to go via i Movies etc.

  Also!!!!

  2) This begs the next frustrating question – why will FCP only upload my recorded footage as sequences and not clips!!! – I cannot convert the footage into clips, surely this must be something the software does instantly or easily as footage is effectively comprised of collective clips. Please can anyone help!?

  On your first issue. You should not use your 100B as a capturing device. It will just put more hours on the head. Use your Olympus to capture your footage. Both cameras are mini DV’s. This will prolong the life of your 100B. Also which Mac r u using?

  For your second issue what do u mean by upload. You mean when you are capturing or exporting back to tape or QT?

  Hi there.

  I’m so sorry it has taken me this long to respond, things have been very busy and you must have thought me completely rude…

  …I have a brand new Imac. Regarding my reference to the olumpus camera, I would like to specify that this is an actual photographic camera, not a DV, which makes it all the more peculiar that FCP recognises this instead of the DvX100.

  As for the footage problem, well I managed to import the footage (which I can only open with Imovie )to FCP as an XML file. But as I stated previously, the footage appears to be imported as a whole sequence that I don’t know how to break down to clips so I can actually edit it.

  Do you know why this is happening? How one manipulates a sequence in fCP?
