    Hi,

I’m capturing off miniDV HDV tapes using a Sony HDV deck to Final Cut (6.0.4). I have a MacBookPro, 1 GB RAM.

I have capture set to “Sony HDV Firewire” capturing “HDV” and it’s all playing alright through my computer for the capture. I can see picture, hear sound, control the deck through my computer. However, when I play the clip back it looks awful – it’s pixelated and it kind of pulsates. I notice that within the “HDV” capture preset, there are no options to change. Is it just a playback issue on FCP or am I capturing incorrectly?

    Thanks.

What video settings are you using? The device control is correct but what about the rest of the settings? BTW, what is the deck? Could you be precise rather than some generic deck? What is it set to output? Check the menus.

    All the best,

    Tom

The deck is a Sony HDV HVR-M10U, hooked up via firewire. As per the manual’s instructions, I’ve set the [In/Out Rec] menu settings [VCR HDV/DV] to [AUTO] and set [i.LINK CONV] to [OFF].

In Final Cut, in the Audio/Video Settings, I have the capture Preset set to HDV which is capturing as 1080i60. What other settings are there? There’s no option in Final Cut Capture Presets for me to change any settings within the HDV preset and when the capture window comes up, there is no room for me to change anything there either.

I will add that a problem I have is that the woman for whom I am working does not remember how the tapes were shot and apparently there’s no way to find out.

Open the captured clip in the QuickTime player and se hat movie info says about it. What you get in Final Cut should be what was on the tape.

    All the best,

    Tom
