  Captured footage comes in at high speed

  I’m working on a rather complex project and i’m having a capture issue. The film was shot in two formats…some on HD cam and some on Betacam. We’ve made down-converted dubs on miniDV for all of the tapes and cloned the timecode (so we’re all squared away for the online.) For some odd reason some of the miniDV tapes are coming in sped up. I know this for a fact because, to make things more complicated, they used dual system recording, so when i go to synch the audio it’s way way off.

  I’m looking into the possibility of the tapes being dubbed incorrectly, but i was just wondering if there was a setting in Final Cut that could be causing this capture problem. Anybody dealt with a similar problem before? Thanks.

  I’ve had tapes that had timecode glitches respond that way for a short time, but not continuously. First thing you need to verify the dub by playing back on a deck-not through FCP. I know of NO setting that would cause this.

  Thanks for the quick response Todd,

  Turns out there WAS a problem with the dubs. Hopefully all will be right with the world again once I get the new copies.

  I’ll let you know the results when I find out.
