I came on board this project after almost everything was captured and now we’re crashing all the time and think it’s codec-related.

All footage is P2, half 30 half true 24. I don’t know why they shot that way but we have to just go with it. Our A cam is 24 so we would like to keep everything as is rather than convert now, and hopefully not end up with too much B cam to convert in the online.

Anyway, all the A cam is in ProRes codec and the B cam in DVC Pro codec. No matter what sort of new project I create it defaults to this. Even when my capture preset is DVC Pro HD – 1080 24Ap the a cam shows ProRes in the browser’s compressor column. Someone suggested that two codecs is causing a lot of our crashes, but can I bring them in any other way? If I try recompressing through media manager do I lose any quality or is there any other drawback?

And if we can get them in the same codec which would you suggest?

    Thanks for any advice,
    Katrina
