  • Feild Issues with only Graphics – Footage is Fine

Posted by Jacob Owens on January 23, 2008 at 2:15 pm

So, I interpret my footage properly, as lower field first. I add some animated text or graphics, and when I render out at lower field first, the footage looks fine, but I’m having field issues on my graphics.

The only solution I could find was to pre render out my graphics with an alpha channel, import and then render that out on top of my footage. Which means 2 passes of rendering…. not exactly a good workflow.

It seems like the animation is interpreting improperly,….

Anybody have this issue, or know of a solution?

    thanks

    Jake

What do you mean by “field issues” on the graphics?
    Got a screen shot?
Do you see interlacing? If so, in which app?
How do things look on an interlaced (TV) monitor?

    Hey, heres a sample image:

theres no frame blending on, or no motion blur.

    thoughts?

any more info I need to say?

haha, sorry, your right, I still need to answer your questions… (writing this while working)

yeah, on my computer screen AND on an interlaced broadcast monitor, the text is interlacing, like in the still. In my aftereffects comp, it looks fine, but once its rendered out, it looks bad in quicktime, and in avid.. I’ve tried a few different codecs, like animation and none codec, but our main one of course is the avid codec 1:1

So, the video is fine, but text is interlacing.

Hmph. The codecs shouldn’t affect this issue.
The footage should look normally interlaced, and the text should look normally interlaced. By that I mean “consistent with your knowledge of interlacing and motion”.

Here’s a thought: are you stretching in the Output Module? Because that’s forbidden when rendering interlaced.

Here’s the normal process for what I think you want to do:
    – import interlaced footage, make sure it’s interpreted lower field first (LFF) if DV, or many other formats IF YOU EXPECT TO DISTORT/MOVE/ROTATE/SCALE/BLUR the footage. Otherwise, if it is just a background clip, interpret with field sep OFF.
    – drag the footage onto the “new comp” button at the bottom of the project window, to create a comp that matches the footage characteristics.
    – add and animate the text
    – set up a render: render LFF in the Render Settings, and choose your Avid codec for the Output Module. No scaling or cropping.

How does that compare to your process?
