First off you do not need to add all those ** just to get attention.
Second did you try doing a search for information on what you are asking, there is a TON of info already out there.
A simple wikipedia search for mpeg brings a a TON of info.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

Very simple explanation:
MPEG-1 – Old
MPEG-2 – Used on DVDs and some consumer/prosumer formats
MPEG-4 – Newer and more efficient compression
H.264- Like MPEG-4 but more efficient (best option for size vs. quality)-Russ

He should be teaching you how to search and FIND answers instead of relying upon others. Asking on a forum should only come AFTER doing a good search of the forum first.

I think that it’s nice that your teacher is introducing you to a community like creative cow. To Zane’s point though, it is annoying when people ask questions that they could easily find the answer themselves.
I would hope that this experience starts some sort of conversation in your class of the role of communities like this. If you’re teacher thinks it’s just a place to get questions answered, than he/she has a short sided view of what this really is. Answering questions is part of it, but it’s also building something like a support library for users to search though to find answers to their own questions when the have them. Also the networking power of communities like this is much greater than most users understand.
Your question is a very simple one and within 20 seconds I pulled up the wikipedia page on MPEG that answers your question.

I believe that’s why Zane was giving you grief because 1) the question had already been answered and 2) if you needed more info, it was seconds away if you just took some self initiative to search on you own. Now Zane was criticizing your teacher’s methods more than anything.
Anyways, we all hope you get an A on the assignment and grow up to become a wealthy producer and hire all of us on your $100 million dollar features. Remember the little folk that helped you get an A on what MPEG even is.
