  FCP 16:9 Problem

  New FCP User Disclaimer.. bear with me

  Hi,

  I just digitized a whole bunh of footage ino FCp. All shot 16:9.

  The Capture preset was set to DV NTSC 48 KHZ

  When I put the footage in a sequence and say YES to changing the sequence to match the clip it looks wierd in the canvas. the clip is much wider than 16:9. If I run it out to a monitor by looping it through my deck is looks normal on the 16:9 monitor.

  I am an AVID editor trying to switch over to FCP.

  I would appreciate some help. Di need to redigitize this as anamorphic? How would I do that?… if I need to…

  You used the wrong preset to capture. You should have used a DV anamorphic setting. Set the anamorphic check for all the clips you captured in the anamorphic column in the browser. Make a new sequence. Make sure it is a DV sequence with the anamorphic box checked. Edit the material into it.

  Hi Tom,

  Thanks for your patience… I selected anamorphic for all the clips but now they look horozontally stretched in the canvas etc… (looks fine on my external monitor set to 16:9) If I turn the anamorphic setting off iin the sequence the video in the canvas looks like the external monitor and doesn’t appear to be stretched horozontally any more. I do not understand this.

  It sounds as if the sequence isn’t set correctly. Make a new sequence. Open the sequence. Go to Sequence>sequence settings. Is the anamorphic box checked? If yes, edit one of the anamorphic shots into it. If no, check it. Then edit a shot into it.
