  • re-install….error, now compressor won’t open…

i re-installed FCP Studio 2 and now I get an error installing this software, please try again…try again and same error message.

i followed the correct uninstall procedure, trashing the programs, and throwing out the stuff in the receipts folder…ayone have an idea why this is happening? any way to just install compressor? all other FCP programs run fine…

i did a search and found the post about compressor not launching, but didn’t help much. Are there any other items that need to be deleted for compressor to install correctly? I thought I got everything….

well, after a little more searching….i found a BUNCH of other files and folders that need to be deleted for Compressor to be re-installed…of course everything else in the suite installed nicely…I’ll try to re-install this and see if it works….but again, how can i just re-install compressor and not everything else?

    Hi Joe,

compressor is on the DVDSP DVD.
Start with the DVDSP disk and only ‘check’ Compressor in the custom install options.

I’m having a similar problem reinstalling Compressor after uninstalling FCP Studio 2. Could you tell me what other files you found that needed to be deleted? I followed the list of items to throw away, but I’m curious what I might have missed. Much obliged.

This is from the great Shane Ross

Shane’s Stock Answer #39 – How to uninstall FCP 5

Here’s the way to do it:

    1) Close FCP
    2) Go to: /users/username/library/preferences/
    a. Delete the com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
    b. Delete the FCP User data folder.
    3) Go to: Applications
    a. Delete FCP application
    b. Delete FCP HD addition easy setups folder.
    4) Go to: /library/applicaton support/fcp system support/
    a. Delete Custom Settings folder
    b. Delete Plugins folder
    5) Go to: /library/receipts/ and delete the following:
    a. AnalogPAL.pkg
    b. AppleIntermediateCodec.pkg
    c. DigitalPAL.pkg
    d. DVCproHDCodec.pkg
    e. FinalCutPro.pkg
    f. FinalCutproHDUpdate4.5.pkg
    g. FinalCutProHelp.pkg
    h. HDVCodec.pkg
    i. IMXCodec.pkg
    j. Uncompressed422.pkg
    k. VideoOutSupport.pkg

If you want to reinstall it:

    6) Insert the FCP 5.0 upgrade disk and re-install.

    7) Run the OSX Disk Utility
    a. Select the OSX drive
    b. Repair the Disk Permissions.
    c. Reboot.
8)Run Software update to get back to the current version.

    Good Luck,
