  • Setting correct audio levels for music and voice

Posted by Mark Shea on October 21, 2007 at 10:26 pm

I am working on a house tour project where the builder does a walk through tour of his house. I have topped and tailed the project with music.

The builder played the dvd at an expo, where the background noise was loud. Unfortunately the music level came across audible but the voice track was too soft (even when speakers were on at 11!!)

Is it necesaary when editing in Final Cut Pro to boost voice audio by +3db or even +6db so as it is at the same sound level as a professional music track?

    regards

    Mark

Without going into a lot of detail… yes.

But, if you are mixing the music with voice, you would not want to leave the music at full volume (as captured,) anyway.

Mixing is something that must be done carefully while monitoring via good audio playback system/speakers.
