Why does it say media offline?
Posted by Teach on October 14, 2007 at 6:34 amWhy is it when I have built a project and reopen it the “media offline” appears instead of my videos and titles? But the video and titles show up in the canvas? Please help me understand. Thank you..

October 15, 2007 at 2:41 pmFCP is strange. it’s not like all the media was missing. just some was missing and my titles and movies and sounds are well organized. So if video was missing why wasn’t it all missing? Why would some go offline but others not, if all my videos are in the same place?

October 17, 2007 at 12:19 pmI’m guessing that the render files of that FCP made of your original media were still stored, so you could still see the material. If you delete, move, rename or even *edit* a file outside FCP, then it will also say Media Offline
What gets me about FCP (I use Pro 5) is that when I edit a bit of media (eg I normalise a WAV in a project using an external editor), I get the “media offline” message – fair enough. But I have to manually show FCP where it is, or let it search the whole disk. It *knows* where the original file is, so I wish it would just say “this file has changed – update Y/N”. Applications like Cubase have done this for years.
