Sorry if I’m repeating myself here but I want to be sure I purchase the right machine!
i want to capture video AND audio from vhs tapes. I know I must use a deck that has s- video out,( I guess firewire on a VCR for less than $300 is out of the question!) . Maybe you know how to tell if my system is set up to automatically convert the signal for Final Cut? Or if I must also purchase some kind of signal converter?
And as far as the audio,( I assume that audio will not come through the s-video!), can I just plug into the audio in ( I think thats what that jack next to the headphone jack is) on my Powerbook G4 from the audio outs on the vcr and will it show up somehow in Final Cut?
I ‘ve found that Best Buy has VHS /DVD machines that have s-video out, for around $200. But Some of the s-video jacks have a sticker that says “s-video output from DVD only” next to it. I assume i DON’T want this machine.
    In a nutshell:
    1. How do I capture the Audio AND video from vhs tapes?
    2. What equipment and connections do I need?
    Thanks Dean

You need a converter box, DataTek Video or Canopus or some such. Some cameras also allow pass through; they’ll take an analog signal and feed it out digitally through FireWire to the computer to convert it.

    All the best,

    Tom
