I’ve really messed up the files and I need help
I have a Mac OS X version 10.4.10 – Processor: 2.4GHz and 2GB
I also have FCExpress
I created a project through FCE-export to iMovie-shared to iDVD and burned on DVD –
I tried to do another project, but it said, ‘low disc space.’
I bought an external Seagate 160GB hoping to transfer the project files.
I’ve moved, mixed, and messed up the files all over the place.
I’ve confused, and about to have a nervous break down.
Can someone help…

You might want to go from FC Express straight to iDVD instead of using iMovie. iMovie duplicates the file. Unless you added things to your file in iMovie, delete the iMovie project you created.

Okay, I will delete my iMovie files, but as I try and open my iDVD projects, I can’t because it says ‘Missing Disks’
Someone lastnight through Apple’s FCE discussion group suggested I move all files from my external, go to Disc Utility, go to Erase tab, make sure it said MAC OS Extended, and press OK.
I did just that, but now I can’t see the external anywhere, but yet its plugged into the MacBook Pro.
I hope you respond, but I won’t be able to respond back until I get back from work.
I owe, I owe, off to work I go…I’ll be back later tonight. Thanks again Russ.

Does the disk show up in disk utility anymore? If so and if the drive still isn’t showing up on your computer, try to erase the disk again and format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Hopefully that will get it to show up on your computer again.
As for you iDVD projects, you might need to start over and recreate them.

Okay, I did what you wrote and put them in 2
partitions.I was able to drag from the internal to the external
one project that was archived. I was also able to
open it with no problem.My question is, can I safely delete the other files on
my internal pertaining to the archived project file I
dragged to my external?I could see you crackin’ up at my treating this as
walking on egg shells.On another note Russ,
1. if I wanted to be trained in Final Cut Express
working on my Panasonic DVX100, is there anyone you
would recommend or any workshop or organization in
Hawaii or even New Zealand that you are aware of?2. How would I be able to go straight from finish edit
project in FCE straight to iDVD? If I knew how, I
never would of sidetracked to iMovie.Thanks a bunch,

While I’m quite sure there are people in Hawaii or New Zealand that can help with training, I don’t personally know any of them. You could contact the Apple Store in Honolulu and see the they would suggest anyone.

Also, the manual for Final Cut Express will be priceless to you. On page 977 of the manual, it walks you through step by step on how to export you movie to iDVD.
Here it is:
Exporting QuickTime Movies for iDVD
iDVD only imports standard QuickTime movies as video sources. This means that if you
intend to use iDVD as your DVD authoring application, you only need to export a
QuickTime movie from Final Cut Express HD. iDVD automatically encodes the video and
audio sources to be DVD-compliant. The video is encoded as MPEG-2 at a quality
controlled by a preference setting and the video length. The audio is encoded as
uncompressed AIFF.To export a QuickTime movie for use in iDVD:
1 In Final Cut Express HD, choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
2 Configure the Save dialog as desired.
In most cases, you will leave the Include pop-up menu set to Audio and Video. If you
have created any markers, choose DVD Studio Pro Markers in the Markers pop-up
menu. iDVD can use either self-contained or reference movies, allowing you to decide
whether to make the movie self-contained based on other requirements (disk space
and so on).
