on average how long would it take an editor to l/d 7 60 minute dv tapes, locate selects, and place in Time Line?

Log and Digitize?
Allow two and a half eight hour days if the seven tapes are 60 minutes each.
Could be more depending on the type of production, the style of the shooter, how short the selects need to be, the clarity of the direction the editor received, other stuff.
Could be less too.

Thanks for your reply– yes, log and digitize. The task was to find specific topics addressed in interviews and bts footage, and insert them into separate sequences per topic. The goal of course is to be as swift as possible, but not at the cost of missing audio selects. I was able to do ths task in 10 hours– what helped was watching the footage while logging the entire 60 min, taking notes, and then once the log/capture was complete of the full 60 min, scrubbing though the clip and placing markers on the clip, naming the markers per topc, then inserting the audio clips into it’s specfied sequence. I am interested in hearing about other work flow modes–such as– do others ever watch the full 60 min w/o capturing, write down timecode, log thse specific clips, and then do a batch capture? What is the most efficent procedure? I found mine was good– especially after comparing my time to your estimate– but I am interested in hearing your thoughts on this. I want to be fast. Also– when selecting audio clips for editors– if they do not specify– is it best/industry standard to leave a few seconds before and after the select– or when the clip is played– the audio begins right away? I think this really depends on the subject matter and the anticipated output.
Sounds like your work flow fits the task very well.

As to the audio clip question, it’s always better to leave “handles” for the audio guy. If you are exporting exact clips, leave a couple of seconds at each end. If you are exporting omfs the app asks you how long the handles should be.
