Editing on movement – a seriously basic question
Hi everyone
I haven’t had a need to inter-cut clips on movement until now and am finding that each – and – every minor clip adjustment seems to involve rendering. is there a way around this that i’m just ignorant to?
Any information from what you’d assume is trivial all the way to genius would be very useful. For example: do products like AJA Kona or Xena replace the rendering requirements (I’m not understanding this so far) or are they something else entirely? -

What are the specs on the system that your editing on? What type of footage are you editing?
What version of FCP?It isn’t normal to have to render that often unless you’re on an old system or editing file formats that aren’t standard broadcast settings.

yeah, I don’t know why it’s asking me to render all the time. The system is pretty good: G5 dual processor, 4GB RAM, FCP 5. Footage captured into FCP using the 24p pulldown setting(shot in 24pa on panasonic DVX100).
I put 2 clips on separate video tracks, maybe they should be on the same track? Currently there are no effects or transitions at all, but every time I manipulate a clip in any way, it’s requiring a render. Are there any preferences or settings I can change? thanks -
On the top left side of the timeline, there is a little button that says RT. Set it to unlimited and then also set the other settings to dynamic.

I’m away form the computer, but I know i’m set currently on safe RT and dynamic. When I get back, I’ll switch to RT unlimited and let you know. I’m starting to think that it might be due to bringing in 24pa footage and editing in 23.97 fps. Just a suspicion at this point. -
24PA footage if properly captured over firewire is 23.98 footage. You don’t have to render the clip when you put it in the timeline right? Just when you do something to it like a transition or filter?

FINALLY. Got it figured out. Somehow, the 1st sequence I opened up in FCP decided to be a 29.97 video rate timeline while all my clips were in the correct 23.98… All the other sequences I created were also in the correct video rate. Once I deleted the sequence and created a new one with the correct settings Voila! No more need for rendering. Thanks for holding my hand through this.

I hate it when it’s something simple like that. Way to get it fixed though.
