We shot a feature on the JVC HD100u in HDV 720p24 and are having an abundance of issues trying to capture the footage. I rented the JVC BRHD50 to capture and am still unable to capture the footage natively as HDV 720p24 footage. We can log and capture but the system loses communication after capturing about 2 seconds of footage. The deck is upgraded to the newest firmware version 108 and FCP has all of the current updates through 5.1.4. I am afraid to capture using the HDV AIC because of the timecode being lost and other issues I have read about. I also read about capturing using the HDV 720p30 AIC and conforming in Cinema Tools but I am unsure if this approach would be the best since it was originally used when FCP didnt offer native HDV support.

I could go on forever but I guess the question is, does anyone have any suggestions of how to ingest native HDV 720p24 footage in FCP 5.1.4 with or without the deck?

Sometimes restarting everything helps, though you probably did this already.

Your timecode might be broken or offset badly, this can stop final cut from capturing.

Try doing a test capture with out timecode to see if this is the reason.

    Thanks,

The timecode must be completely out of whack or something. Not enough pre-roll. I really don’t know. I’ve read so much about people being able to edit HDV without problems when using FCP 5.1.4 but I guess I am not one of the lucky ones.

I had to capture with the AIC which I didn’t want to do because of quality issues and the loss of timecode but we had to get the deck back to the rental house and it was the only way we could capture anything.

Now have to conform in Cinema Tools and am having sound issues. Anyone done this before?
