  monitoring audio

  What is the preferred way to set up FCP to monitor audio? Is using the mini jack on the back of my G5 adequate or should I pull audio and video off my deck?

  Monitoring off your deck is best, in my opinion. Especially if you are outputting for video (eg not exclusively for web).

  You will get a better reference for your colours, and minimise potential latency/sync issues in your final product. You will also get a better idea of what your audio sounds like off tape while digitising – I find the audio monitoring in the Capture window to not be accurate to what’s actually on the tape.

  Don’t monitor video through your deck and audio through G5 – sync will be out.
