how do i bring DVD into FCP?
can i use my DV cam to record it or bypass it through the AV or DV in/out? ineed to make a reel and I have DVDs that need editing-

You could digitise that way, or I tend to use mpeg streamclip from Squared5 – Pretty easy to find with a Google search.
And it’s free.

I find DVD X DV or Cinematize do a nice job…. neither are free.. but you get what you pay for.

All of the above will give you the option of transcoding into various formats. In your case, you will want to create a DV quicktime, and import that into FCP as you would any other media.
And yes, audio will be there too.

hello,
i’ve also tried to use the bypass, out from the DVD player into the AV of the camera out from the DV of the camera into the Firewire of the MAC but….nothing. no luck.
also do i need another software for streamclip to work?
i can’t seem to make it….i’ve tried a bunch of different things, the guide doesn’t exactly say how to import a DVD into it.

Why don’t you just dub your DVD’s to your DV Cam deck and then capture the tape and edit it. Are you dealing with copyright protected material on those DVD’s?

If I could I would…but how? i would need a DVD player that has a DV out…..right? or can i do it through the regular video/audio out into the cam DV in? do they make cables as such?
i’m getting discouraged- no copyright involved.

Depending on which DVCAM deck youhave you can absolutely record an analong signal out of the DVD player and into the deck.
Mpeg streamclip is your best bet.
if you do not have the Quicktime Mpeg 2 component you can buy it from apple for 29$. This lets you convert DVD VOB files into any codec you wish.
