Ok, heres the situation. FCP was working perfectly fine on my machine. I don’t open it for about 2 days, and now it will not open. I try to open it by any means (dock, application menu, quicksilver, project files, terminal) and the loading screen comes up no problems, however after I see “loading audio filters” it just closes. No windows initialize, no error messages, it just terminates.

I have tried restarting, I have tried unmounting drives, I have tried uninstalling Quicksilver (installing it was the only change I have made to the system in the last 2 days). But none of these have helped. I cannot think of anything else and I REALLY need to get FCP running again.

has anyone else encountered this problem or have any idea how to fix it?

My final solution would be to re-install it but it it not somthing I would like to do..

    G’day,

This exact problem happened to me two days ago. I’ll tell you the steps which I followed.

    1. Trash preferences – this often works apparently
    2. Delete application and re-install – this worked in my case

If you delete and reinstall, there is a receipt folder in ~/library/receipts. Delete all receipts with Final Cut Pro in the name. If you don’t do this, Final Cut Pro won’t reinstall completely and the solution won’t work (at least in my case).

The good news is that once I reinstalled, the problem hasn’t reoccured (in the last day). All my hair is grey though…..

    Regards,
    Doug
