  • Automatic Backups?

Posted by Crys on April 27, 2006 at 4:06 pm

    Hello,

One of my external drives failed and I lost a very important FCP project. I was wondering if FCP does automatic backups and save these projects somewhere on the internal drive?

    Thank you for your help.

    Good news… maybe…

Yes, FCP does do automatic backups of your project (just the project file, not the media). You can check this location by going to System Settings and then looking to see where the Autosave Vault is saving to. I belive the defualt location is somewhere in Documents/Final Cut Pro Documents/… .

For your sake, I hope it is your internal HD. 🙂

it should be there, if there is anything left of the original project, you can open the project file and go up to file restore, but as this isn’t an option look for a file named the same as your projectfile with roughly 10 numbers after it

    livelife.fcp_04-25-06_0151

thats my last autosave from a recent project located here

bootdrive:[main user folder]:documents:final cut pro documents: autosave vault:[project name].fcp and then the top most will be the most recent project file

as a side note, keeping the projectfiles on your comuter (or on a different drive than that of your scratch) will be faster than running them on the same drive, as your drive will constantly go back and forth when looking for referances, causing dropped frames, slower renders and a less responsive timeline.

your project files should be located in a similar location

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I found the latest saved file, so I did not have to re-edit the entire thing!
